An intraoral camera is an invaluable instrument for both the dentist and the patient. Do you sometimes have a hard time picturing what’s going on in your mouth? The images taken by an intraoral camera can be put on a screen so that you can clearly see the state your teeth are in. And with a CariVu camera, damaged or decayed areas can be more clearly identified; not only will you see the issue for yourself, but we’ll have an easier time detecting potential oral health issues.
When planning a dental procedure, it always helps to have as much information as possible about your mouth. Obviously, that includes the teeth and gums, but the state of the underlying bone, nerve paths, and other nearby structures should also be taken into account. A traditional X-ray doesn’t always capture all of the information we need, which is why 3D cone beam imaging is so invaluable. We can create a 3D model of your mouth that we can use to plan any number of complex treatments.
The change from traditional radiographs to digital technology for X-rays has resulted in several remarkable benefits. First of all, 90% less radiation is involved, making the process safer for patients. The images are of much higher quality and can be enlarged for our convenience. It’s also easier to take digital X-rays in the first place; no preparation is required, and the complete picture is available right away (which means there’s no need for a dark room filled with chemicals that could harm the environment).
CEREC technology offers a better way to design and create crowns. The CEREC Omnicam is a small, easily handled device that we can use to scan your teeth. Special software uses the scan to design a restoration that will be milled out of a block of ceramic material right here in our dental office. Not only do the highly accurate scans help ensure that the crown will be well-fitted the first time, but you can receive your crown in just one visit – no need to worry about wearing a temporary restoration for weeks!
